#46 : What is the LOM law?

The Mobility Orientation Law (LOM) seeks to make land transport carbon neutral by 2050, and offer everyone an alternative to the private car. For instance, it sets out obligations for fleet renewal. This applies to all private and public sector companies with more than 50 employees and a fleet of more than 100 vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of less than 3.5 tonnes.

In this respect, the law encourages the roll-out of electric vehicles.

It was gazetted in the Journal Officiel on December 26, 2019. This law radically transforms mobility policy, with a simple objective: make everyday transport easier, cheaper and cleaner. More particularly, it introduces quotas for clean vehicles when renewing company fleets (10% by January 2022, 20% by January 2024, 40% by January 2027, 70% by January 2030).
