REV AND SOGAFRIC PRESENT THEIR NEW TOYOTA HILUX RETROFIT KIT IN MOROCCO

By Author

The demand for retrofitting in Africa is growing, particularly for companies keen to have zero-emission vehicles in their fleets.

The result of two years of development to analyze and understand customer usage (mileage, site diversity, on-site usage) and specific geographic/topographical characteristics (equatorial and tropical climate, heat, humidity), REV and Sogafric today unveil their off-road electric retrofit kit for Hilux, the Toyota pickup truck with over 18 million units sold, called "E-LUX."

"Our E-LUX is a retrofitted utility vehicle, transformed from combustion to electric, based on the Toyota Hilux, the most widely used 4x4 on the African continent. Designed to operate in the most demanding and hostile environments—off-road, rural areas, improvised workshops, limited electrical infrastructure—E-LUX combines proven robustness, real autonomy, and simplified logistics."

Boris Kerangall, Deputy Managing Director of Sogafric.

The first 260 units have been reserved for Gabon, which has just introduced retrofit regulations, with installation and after-sales handled by Gesparc Toyota Gabon with REV's approval. REV, with its new REV Offroad brand, and Sogafric will launch the offer from 2026 for all the countries where Sogafric operates, before offering the solution across the entire African continent.

Key technical specifications:

- Base: Toyota Hilux GUN 125 (>2015)

- Engine: electric 80 kW (peak)

- Battery: 40 kWh to R100-2 standards

- Range: 190 km in off-road conditions

- Recharge time: 80% in 5 hours (on 7kW terminal).

- Tropical kit: air conditioning, hot zone compatibility

Why is this a strategic innovation?

- Zero local emissions, without sacrificing power or off-road capability

- Circular economy: conversion of existing vehicles

- Easy maintenance: 100% of parts available locally

- Decarbonisation: over 8 tonnes of CO2 saved per vehicle over 80,000 km

"REV is proud to be a pioneer in the decarbonization of a continent as large as Africa, where the supply of new electric vehicles is almost non-existent. This demonstrates the real need for retrofitting and the circular economy, as these vehicles are present in every country. This production joint venture with Sogafric/Gesparc Gabon is a major component, as we would not be able to retrofit without their expertise, professionalism, and local presence to install vehicles as close as possible to customers."

Arnaud Pigounides, President of REV Mobilities
